Storm Lorenzo Ireland: Dublin Lighthouse takes a hammering as 'ferocious' ex Hurricane heads for Ireland

This is the moment that a Dublin lighthouse took a scary battering as the 'ferocious' Storm Lorenzo begins to show its influence on our shores.

The lighthouse in Balbriggan was hammered with high speed waves on Tuesday with the water severally shaking nearby boats.

The video was captured by cătălin grigoraş who was frightened to think what sort of condition the place would be left in if the Storm is to get as bad as predicted in the capital.

Lorenzo is expected to hit the country on Thursday bringing with it severe rain, wind and thunder which will create a risk of huge flooding.

Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy attended a meeting of the National Emergency Co-ordination Group ahead of Storm Lorenzo landing in Ireland.

Speaking on Tuesday night, he said: “Our primary concern is around coastal areas and the very significant storm and wave surges we are going to see.

“It could be quite ferocious, very dangerous. There is a secondary concern around very strong winds.”

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "The centre of Storm Lorenzo will move east to southeastwards over Ireland on Thursday night with the strongest winds situated to the south of the storm centre.

"It will become very windy or stormy in Atlantic coastal counties overnight as winds veer westerly in direction.

"Squally bands of rain will accompany the strong winds with isolated thunderstorms possible, bringing a risk of spot flooding. Minimum temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees."
