An enterprising New Yorker took advantage of the blizzard ravaging the city by building an igloo and listing it on Airbnb.
Describing the snowy structure as a 'Boutique winter igloo for two', Brooklyn resident Patrick M. Horton told would-be guests it would cost them $200 (£140) for a single night’s stay.
Airbnb, however, failed to see the funny side of Mr Horton’s listing, removing it from the website and telling the 28-year-old that he had breached the terms and conditions as the structure failed to meets its “occupancy standards”.
They did, however, reward his enterprising spirit by granting him a voucher to stay at another Airbnb site, adding that they had been impressed that his igloo appeared to be “very well constructed”.
For the short amount of time it appeared on the site the building, the igloo was billed as “Dripping with ingenuity and alt-lifestyle aura lays the Snopocalypse of 2016's most desirable getaway.”
The tongue-in-cheek description added: “Hand-crafted, and built using only natural elements - we're offering the experience of a life time in this chic dome-style bungalow for you and bae.”
While Mr Horton’s listing wasn’t quite up to Airbnb’s standards, there are several other igloo-style buildings available to rent on the room-sharing website.
The Ilulissat Ice Fjord in Greenland is available for $327 (£230) a night, while those on more of a budget can stay at the Iglu Village in Kühtai, Austria for just £83 a night, according to MailOnline.
The news comes as it emerged that the weather system causing historic blizzard conditions across America’s eastern seaboard is on its way to Britain - albeit in a much milder form.
The same low pressure system, which has threatened to drop more than 100cm of snow in certain areas of the US, will be extremely modified by the time it reaches British shores.
The blizzard conditions currently hitting the US are likely to have dissipated as the weather system crosses the Atlantic, bringing heavy rain rather than snow to the UK.
