Storm Ireland: Weather forecast tomorrow as cyclone to pass leaving sunny day with 20C highs in south

Parts of Ireland will enjoy a brief taste of summer on Wednesday following the passing of Storm Francis.

The cyclone hit the country late on Monday night and made its way east on Tuesday, sparking torrential rain and strong winds in many areas.

However, Met Eireann says the storm will have passed by Wednesday as parts of the south are set for sunny spells and highs of 20C.

A spokesman said: "Wednesday will start out mainly dry with sunny spells and just a few scattered showers.

"The showers will become more frequent and heavy at times during the afternoon over the northern half of the country, but drier conditions will maintain further south.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees with light to moderate westerly or variable breezes."

Despite the pleasant daytime conditions, the south - along with the rest of the country - will experience rainfall on Wednesday night.

The spokesman added: "Wednesday night will start off dry with clear spells, but showers will move in from the west to most areas overnight.

"Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees with light southerly or variable breezes."

Enjoy any sunny spells while you can because Thursday is set to be a wash out with the possibility of thunderstorms.

Met Eireann said: "There will be widespread showers on Thursday, heavy and possibly thundery at times. Showers could also merge into longer spells of rain in places.

"Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with light south to southeast breezes.

"Showers will continue across the southern half of the country on Thursday night, with northern areas becoming mostly dry with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees."
