Storm Imogen: video shows pilot forced to abort arriving at London City Airport

Video has emerged showing an aircraft touching down at London City Airport before weather conditions forced the plane to take off again.

The footage shows the Alitalia plane, flying in from Milan, swaying from side to side – visibly affected by the high winds caused by Storm Imogen.

The pilot aborts the landing and rapidly ascends into the sky.

Storm Imogen has brought winds of up to 100mph causing travel and power disruptions on Britain’s southern coast.

Thousands of homes in the south-west England have been without electricity after gale-force winds brought down power lines.

An estimated 5,000 homes in Ireland have also suffered blackouts.

The worst of the weather can be viewed below.

Mike Reid, an RSPCA inspector, has also been missing since Sunday evening after he trying to rescue dozens of sea birds at a Porthchapel Beach, near Penzance.
