Storm Imogen: Video shows huge waves lash sea front as high winds hit UK

Amateur footage shows the moment huge waves battered a sea front, as winds neared 100mph in the UK thanks to Storm Imogen

The video was recorded by George Smith in Aberystwyth, after extreme weather made its away across the channel.

The strongest winds so far have hit The Needles off the Isle of Wight, where gusts of 96mph were recorded.

The Channel is expected to see swells as high as 14 metres, a height that is classified as “phenomenal” – the highest possible on the World Meteorological Scale.

Gales are also expected further inland, with speeds around 70mph expected to hit London over lunch.

Storm Imogen has also caused roughly 5,000 homes in the Midlands to lose power, as well as disrupting public transport services including trains, ferries and possibly flights leaving Gatwick Airport.
