Motherwell's Fir Park hit by storm damage ahead of Livingston clash

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows has posted photographs of storm damage at Fir Park early this morning - but says the pitch is fine for this evening's Premiership clash with Livingston.

Torrential rain battered the North Lanarkshire town in the early hours of this morning, with lightning flashes and rolling thunder also striking.

Ground staff had been working on repairs from 3.30am.

In a social media post, Burrows said: "The rain and storms have caused fairly significant flood damage to the stadium itself and around the ground.

"Huge thanks to  [safety and facilities manager] Robert Park and his groundstaff team, who have been at Fir Park since 3.30am getting things mopped and patched up. Outstanding effort.

"PS, pitch is absolutely fine."

Motherwell clash with Livingston at Fir Park this evening in a 7.45pm kick-off, with both sides looking for their first points of the new season.
