Storm heading to UK could see half an inch of rain fall per hour

Weather charts show the South West will be lashed by as much as half an inch of rain per hour next week.

The storm is set to work its way across the Atlantic Ocean on Monday morning (January 27) before reaching the UK shortly after noon.

Almost the whole country will be battered by the deluge, which will last for most of the day, according to WX Charts.

And experts are also predicting snow will follow the downpours, but the vast majority of the white stuff will be directed towards northern England, reports Somerset Live.

The Met Office is yet to issue weather warnings but the authority is monitoring the situation.

Morning of January 27

The storm begins to make its way over Ireland in the early hours of Monday as light rain begins to fall in the South West.

It will continue to make its way across the English Channel before making landfall.

Afternoon of January 27

The storm makes landfall in the South West bringing a torrential deluge and up to a centimetre of rain per hour.

A band of snow also begins to develop over Ireland heading towards the north of England.

Evening of January 27

The rain moves away from the South West and towards the South East and London, leaving the region dry by 6pm.

The Met Office five day forecast

Thursday

Thursday will be a dry and overcast day with some mist or hill fog in the area.

Temperatures are likely to be slightly higher than yesterday with brighter spells possible at times through the afternoon and high temperatures of nine degrees.

It will become overcast and murky into the evening with plenty of cloud keeping temperatures above average for the time of year.

Friday

Friday will be a predominantly cloudy day with a chance of rain or drizzle at times and temperatures similar to those seen on Thursday.

Saturday to Monday

There will be spots of rain in between bright spells throughout Saturday, with heavier rain arriving for a time on Sunday.

Further unsettled wet weather is expected at the start of next week.
