Storm Hannah tears Judgement Day banner to shreds at Principality Stadium as fans warned to expect delays

The Judgement Day banner at the Principality Stadium was torn to shreds overnight by Storm Hannah.

Gusts of 70mph battered Wales during the early hours of Saturday morning, with the sign for today's big rugby event at the iconic stadium obliterated.

The Strong gales have continued throughout Saturday, with the roof set to be shut as Wales' four professional teams go head to head in front of more than 50,000 spectators.

There was barely anything left of the giant banner that had been erected outside the stadium on Westgate Street to publicise the event.

Rugby fans are warned to expect some delays on the trains and roads as tens of thousands of people head into Cardiff.

The M48 Severn Bridge is closed eastbound to all traffic and westbound to high sided vehicles as a precaution in the heavy winds. A diversion is in place around the M4 Severn Bridge.

The Severn Tunnel is already closed for electrification work on the rail line between London and Cardiff. The planned closure means some train services are being diverted and coaches are replacing trains between Bristol Parkway and London.

The Scarlets take on the Dragons, while Cardiff Blues face the Ospreys in a straight shoot-out for the Heineken Champions Cup play-offs.

Cyclists planning to take part in the annual Carten 100 race from Cardiff to Tenby have been left disappointed after the event was called off because of the winds for the first time in 15 years.

A yellow weather warning is in place for the whole of Wales and the south of England until 3pm on Saturday with further delays expected on roads, rail, air and ferry transport.

Temperatures plunged overnight with heavy winds and coastal regions, particularly in the north, expected to experience further gales of up to 70mph. A fallen tree partially blocked the M4 westbound at junction 34 Miskin early on Saturday.

Western Power Distribution confirmed a number of power cuts around south Wales and the west of the country.
