Storm Hannah brings a cold and windy weekend washout

It might be spring but Manchester was being hit by a little blast of winter on Saturday thanks to the tail end of Storm Hannah.

Weeks of unseasonally warm and sunny weather came to abrupt halt when Hannah made landfall in the UK, causing 80mph winds and heavy rain in Wales and the south of England.

While Manchester and the north west avoided the worst of the storm, it saw temperatures plummet and brief, heavy downpours as well as thunder and lightning across Greater Manchester.

The Met Office forecasters say temperatures will struggle to reach double figures across the north west today (Saturday).

In this forecast , they say Saturday will be rather cloudy with some persistent and heavy spells of rain.

And it will feel cold thanks to a strong, possibly gale-force northwesterly wind.

Rain will hit the region over the next couple of days (Steve Allen)

But the high winds are expect to die down on Sunday although it will continue to be cloudy with some rain although the temperature is expected to rise but not beyond 13C.

The early part of next week is forecast to be mostly dry but with some patchy rain.
