Storm Gloria's battering Spain as four dead and warning issued to holidaying Brits

Four people have died in Spain as Storm Gloria batters the country bringing high winds, heavy rain and icy conditions.

The north east and Balearic Islands are on high alert as the storm arrives, with waves of 8.44 metres estimated in Valencia on Monday, an all-time record, reports the Mirror.

A man, who was 63, died at his home in Avila, near Madrid, after being hit by roof tiles that were lifted by a gust of wind.

The Foreign Office, meanwhile, issued a weather warning for Brits thinking of travelling there, or already living in Spain.

It said: "Spain's meteorological office (AEMET) has issued an 'extreme risk' weather warning for the following provinces: Teruel, Albacete, Murcia, Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Valencia, Alicante and Castellon.

"The Balearics, Almeria, Granada and Jaen are also on high alert. High winds and snowfall may cause road closures and disruption to transport services."
