Storm Francis latest: Flood alert issued for Ayrshire with heavy rain forecast for the region

A flood alert has been issued for Ayrshire as Storm Francis heads to the region.

According to The Met Office around 60 to 90 millimetres of rain to fall in and around south-west Scotland between today and tomorrow.

Forecasters also said the storm presents a danger to life as a result of possible fast flowing or deep floodwater.

Now SEPA has issued a flood alert for today and Wednesday and say that properties could be at risk.

The warning reads: "Heavy and persistent rain during Tuesday could cause flooding impacts from surface water and small watercourses, during Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday.

"Particularly at risk are flood prone urban areas and the transport network.

"Impacts may include flooding to low-lying land and roads, with difficult driving conditions. Individual properties may also be at risk.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.

"Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188."
