Nan devastated after Storm Eunice leaves her only son's gravestone in ruins

An elderly woman has been left devastated after Storm Eunice destroyed the gravestone of her five-year-old son.

Hannah Morgan says her nan Sheila has been left heartbroken after the storm destroyed the headstone of her only son Andrew near her home, Plymouth Live reports.

The loss has added to Sheila's "bereavement and depression" over the death of her only son, who suffered with cerebral palsy and died when he was just five years old in the 1980s, Hannah said.

It comes after Storm Eunice wreaked havoc on the country yesterday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

At least four people have died since Storm Eunice started battering the UK earlier this week.

The extreme winds, which reached 122mph in some regions, have left a trail of toppled trees, crushed cars, and hundreds of thousands of Brits still without power.

On a GoFundMe set up to raise mone y for the gravestone's repair in Plymouth, Hannah wrote: "Hey everyone, due to Storm Eunice my uncle’s gravestone has devastatingly been ruined.

"My nan holds my uncle very close to her heart as he was her only son and sadly passed when he was just five years old.

"Andrew suffered with cerebral palsy and due to being born in the 80s there wasn’t much anyone could do due to lack of research, etc.

"My nan is extremely devastated that this has happened and this is only adding to her bereavement and depression.

"We would all be eternally grateful if you can find the kindness in your hearts to donate to help my nan restore Andrew’s gravestone.

"Love from us all - Hannah, Kirsty, James and our beautiful Nan Sheila."

Storm Eunice battered the south west leaving crushed cars and fallen trees in its wake, while thousands of properties suffered power cuts.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they “received more than four times the amount of calls we would usually take”, as Storm Eunice battered the south-west of England - with another yellow weather warning in place today.
