Storm Ellen will be next to hit UK after Ciara and Dennis cause trouble, Met Office confirms

The Met Office has revealed the next storm to hit the UK will be Storm Ellen.

It is due to follow Ciara and Dennis, after they triggered torrential rain and horrendous gales.

The tail end of the storms are still being felt across Birmingham and throughout the Midlands.

Red weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office over the weekend, with Birmingham being impacted by a yellow alert.

Parts of the West Midlands, including Staffordshire, were severely flooded on Monday, with attractions closed just as the half term week began.

The Met Office has not forecasted another storm yet, but the next to hit the UK will be Storm Ellen then Francis.

The full list of storm names for 2019-20 is: Atiyah, Brendan, Ciara, Dennis, Ellen, Francis, Gerda, Hugh, Iris, Jan, Kitty, Liam, Maura, Noah, Olivia, Piet, Roisin, Samir, Tara, Vince and Willow.

The names have been picked from a list of submissions by the public, choosing some of the most popular names and also selecting some that reflect the diversity of the four nations.
