Storm Ellen Ireland forecast: Two urgent 12-hour weather warnings in place for Dublin by Met Eireann as thunderstorms hit

Met Eireann have issued a nationwide Status Yellow rainfall warning ahead of "heavy squally downpours" and "thunderstorms."

A previous warning for 19 counties expired at 8am today but forecaster Jean Byrne revealed on Morning Ireland that other warnings were likely to follow due to ongoing bad weather.

A forecaster said: "Heavy squally downpours and thunderstorms will bring a risk of spot flooding at times today and tonight."

The alert is valid from 9am this morning until 5am on Friday.

As well as this, a status yellow wind warning has been issued for Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Kerry and Waterford

Met Eireann say about this warning: "Very strong south to southeast winds later today, veering southwesterly overnight with the potential for further impacts and a continued risk of coastal flooding."

The second warning for the capital will be in place from 5pm this evening until 5am tomorrow morning.

A weather advisory also remains in place until 9pm on Friday as the country recovers from the brunt of Storm Ellen which lashed the south coast with ferocious winds last night.
