Storm Desmond: Elderly man dies after 'gust of wind blows him against moving bus' in Finchley

An elderly man has died in London, after apparently being blown by strong winds into the side of a bus.

The incident took place near Finchley Central Station, north London. Paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 12:30pm to give treatment to the man who is believed to have been 90-years-old. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

A spokesperson for The Metropolitan Police said: “Police are investigating the death of man who they believe was blown by a gust of wind against the side of a moving bus.

“We were called by London Ambulance Service at 12.35pm today to reports of a traffic incident at Chaville Way.

“At the scene, a male pedestrian had been in collision with the side of a moving bus”.

Storm Desmond is currently sweeping through the UK, bringing heavy rainfall and wind. Cumbria Police have declared a major incident after local rivers overflowed their banks; flooding homes and making roads impassable. Homes in the surrounding area have been evacuated. Weather warnings remain in place elsewhere in the UK, with the Midlands, Scotland and North Wales also expected to be particularly affected.
