Storm Dennis: Sunderland fans warned to expect delays ahead of Oxford trip

Sunderland supporters heading south by train for Saturday's game against Oxford have been warned to expect delays.

The rail network is braced for more disruption this weekend due to the affects of Storm Dennis, which is set to hit the UK over the coming days.

The worst of the storm is expected to hit tomorrow, although it is the west side is the country which is set to be heavily affected.

And train operator LNER have this morning warned travellers their journey could be subject to delays - or even train cancellations.

A statement on their website read: "Storm Dennis is forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds across parts of the UK on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February 2020.

"Speed restrictions will be in place across our network on both days.

"As a result, extended journey times, short-notice delays and cancellations are expected.

"We’re continuing to monitor the situation with Network Rail and our industry partners, and we will keep you updated. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Sunderland supporters head to Oxford this weekend, with the match at the Kassam Stadium kicking off at 3pm.

For train updates, be sure to check the LNER website, and we will have the latest in our live blog on ChronicleLive throughout the weekend.
