Storm Dennis sees NI weather warning issued for wind and rain

Northern Ireland is set for another stormy weekend as Storm Dennis approaches.

The Met Office have today issued a yellow weather warning for wind and rain which will come into effect on Saturday, February 15.

The warning is in place as Storm Dennis is set to hit the UK and Ireland this weekend bringing with it  heavy rain and widespread strong winds.

According to the latest forecast for NI, the Met Office say "Saturday is expected to be windy with rain at times, some of this heavy. Becoming drier and a little brighter for a time in the afternoon. Strong to gale southerly winds in the morning."

The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday states: "Windy on Sunday with showers, strong to gale southwesterly winds. Bright with showers on Monday and Tuesday but becoming less windy."

The yellow weather warning for wind and rain is valid from Saturday at 7am until 8pm Saturday night, meanwhile the warning for wind will remain in place until Monday, February 17 at noon.

The Met Office are urging people to take care on the roads as Storm Dennis has potential to cause disruption during Sunday and Monday morning.

What to expect:

  • Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are possible and there is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.
  • Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are likely to be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
