Storm Dennis impacts on sporting fixtures as games are called off

Storm Dennis has hit hard on a number of the weekend's sporting fixtures.

Four games in the NIFL Championship have been postponed due to high winds and torrential rain.

Ballinamallard United's game against Knockbreda was called off just after 2pm,

Dergview vs Newry City, PSNI vs Ballyclare Comrades and Loughgall's game with H&W Welders have also been postponed.

That leaves just two games currently on in the Championship including the clash between leaders Portadown and Queen's University at Shamrock Park.

Meanwhile, in the GAA, Antrim's Division 2A Hurling League showdown at Offaly on Sunday has been postponed following a pitch inspection at O'Connor Park.

Saturday's MacRory Cup quarter-final between St. Patrick's Armagh and Omagh CBS has also been called off due to the weather conditions at Dunmoyle.

The tie has been rescheduled for Wednesday (2.30pm).

And all four of Saturday's Ulster Under-20 Football Championship quarter-finals have also been postponed, including Antrim's game with Derry and Tyrone vs Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.

Elsewhere, TV coverage of the League of Ireland clash between Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers has also been cancelled, but the game is still going ahead at Dalymount Park.

RTE said in a statement: “The SSE Airtricity League of Ireland and RTÉ Sport regret to announce the cancellation of live TV coverage of today’s Dublin derby between Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers.

“The decision was taken on health and safety grounds due to the inclement weather caused by Storm Dennis and its effect on the working conditions of broadcast staff.”
