Storm Dennis flood warning issued for Ayrshire towns on Sunday morning

Towns along the coast of South Ayrshire have been placed on a flood warning by SEPA tonight.

The environmental agency is predicting the effects of Storm Dennis will be felt at their fullest during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Residents have been put on alert this afternoon for high tide, which is due at 5am tomorrow.

The areas at most risk of flooding are Ayr's Seafield Drive, Troon's coastal area and Prestwick Links.

A warning from SEPA reads: "Due to the combination of high tides and prevailing weather conditions there is a risk of flooding from the sea in the Ayr Seafield Drive, Troon Coastal and Prestwick Links at the high tide around 05:00GMT on Sunday 16th February.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.

"Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188."

A slightly downgraded "Flood Alert" is in place for the wider Ayrshire & Arran region, with residents warned to be on guard.
