Storm Dennis damages Gilnahirk shop fronts

A series of shop fronts in East Belfast have been badly damaged by Storm Dennis.

Heavy winds blew masonry from the buildings off Gilnahirk Road on Sunday morning.

A yellow warning for wind has been in place since 10am on Sunday and ends at 11am on Monday.

Deputy Mayor of Belfast Peter McReynolds visited the scene.

He told Belfast Live: "I’ve seen the footage and called down as I live in the area.

"It was very concerning to see the damage caused by Storm Dennis and the safety of shoppers and securing the businesses is paramount.

"I will be working with the businesses affected to explore options with statutory agencies."
