Storm Darcy triggers Cold Weather Payments for these Edinburgh and Lothians postcodes

January 2021 was the coldest the UK has seen in 10 years, with bookies slashing odds on February being another record-breaking month as temperatures are set to plummet.

Storm Darcy has triggered a new wave of Cold Weather Payments for dozens of postcodes across Scotland.

The payments are issued when an area's average daily temperature for the last seven days falls below zero, or the average temperature for that day and the next six days is forecast to be 0ºC or below.

Anyone receiving Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, or Support for Mortgage Interest may be eligible for the extra financial support.

Those eligible will receive a payment of £25 to cover bills, which is paid automatically by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The local postcodes which are eligible for the payment are:

  • EH1-42, EH47-49, EH51-55,
  • FK1-7, FK9-10,
  • KY3, KY11-12

It comes as more heavy snow is on the way in Edinburgh amid a 'Beast from the East 2' warning, with yet another yellow weather warning in place.
