East Kilbride and Strathaven were hit with snowfalls of up to 10cm last night as Storm Darcy continued to cause problems throughout the country.
South Lanarkshire Council say the lowest road temperature overnight was -9.4 degrees at Wanlockhead with snow falling in parts of East Kilbride and Strathaven between 7.5 and 10cm.
With today’s forecast showing more snow and ice the Met Office’s yellow warning for snow is in place until midnight tonight.
Today will continue to be cold but it will not be as breezy.
Snow showers should be more scattered and there will be a mix of cloud and bright spells.
There is a chance of a few snow showers early in the night but then skies clear.
It will be very cold with light winds. A severe frost is likely.
South Lanarkshire Council posted on their Facebook page this morning: “Gritters were out through the night and are treating all precautionary routes this morning.
“They will continue throughout the day and move on to secondary routes from 8pm before moving back to precautionary routes from 4.30am.
“Main footpaths will be treated from 5am.
“Other footway routes are being treated today with help from colleagues in community and farmers with tractors are helping in some rural areas.
“We will continue to fill grit bins. You can also track our gritters live on the map.”
