Storm damage at Ayr's Station Hotel laid bare as photos show scaffolding exposed

The full damage done to Ayr's Station Hotel by Saturday night's storms has been laid bare today.

Protective framework which sits encasing the iconic structure was ripped apart by the gale force winds of the weekend.

Significant repair work lies ahead for scaffolding teams whose dome has been stopping the hotel from crumbling for the last three years.

South Ayrshire Council pays £64,000 per month for the encasement to protect the B-Listed pile.

But it took a battering on Saturday night, with large holes ripped throughout the white sheeting.

The internal structure of the hotel has been left open to the elements and clearly visible from the road below, with three sides of the hotel exposed.

Work to minimise the dmaage took place today, and council bosses will now await repairs to take place.

A council spokesperson said: "Following storm damage to the encapsulation outer material at the weekend, the contractor has been on site and carried out a full check of the structure and removed any loose material.

"In light of the damage to the high level gable sections, repair work has been instructed and this work will commence as soon as practical."
