Storm Corrie: Severe Amber weather warning for Scotland just day after Storm Malik

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for heavy wind in Scotland tomorrow.

It comes as Storm Corrie is set to batter the nation on Sunday following havoc caused by Storm Malik today.

The warning has been issued from 5pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday as the severe weather is expected to cause significant disruption.

The Met Office warned that gusts of up to 80mph were to be expected as they issued a more severe warning of Amber compared to the yellow warning in place today.

Chief Meteorologist, Dan Suri, said: “Storm Corrie will bring very strong winds to the north of the UK, especially northern Scotland, on Sunday.

"This follows just one day after Storm Malik moves though also bringing a spell of very strong winds.

“Storm Corrie will bring gusts of up to 90mph in exposed coastal locations in northern Scotland, with 70-80mph gusts more widely in the north. With back-to-back storms there could be updates to severe weather warnings, so keep an eye on the Met Office forecast.”

Advice on what to expect includes flying debris that could lead to injuries or danger to life.

Damage to buildings and trees looks likely for a second day in a row, as does significant travel disruption.

The Met Office have warned to expect further power cuts and issues with mobile phone coverage during the storm.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon announced earlier that parts of the north east were already expected to be without power over the weekend for the second time in a few months.

Storm Malik has caused significant travel disruption and damage to properties across the country today.

One woman, 60, also tragically lost her life in Aberdeen this morning after she was killed by a fallen tree in the chaotic weather.
