Storm Ciara: trains cancelled from Edinburgh Waverley tomorrow

Storm Ciara is set to hit the UK tomorrow and many train services from Edinburgh Waverley are set to face delays or cancellations as the country is hit with gusts of 70mph winds.

A statement from the Met Office reads: "Very strong winds are likely across much of the UK later Saturday and through Sunday.

"Gusts of 50 to 60mph are likely across many inland areas, with gusts of 70, possibly 80 mph, around some exposed coasts and hills, especially in the north and west."

As a result, there is an amber warning from the Met Office and a speed restriction imposed by Network Rail - with many train operating companies urging customers not to travel on Sunday 9 February.

Strong winds can blow debris onto the tracks, including trees and other forms of vegetation, that delays trains while the line is cleared. Damage can also be caused to overhead power lines.

Here's all the warnings and advice put out by companies that service Edinburgh Waverley.

LNER

LNER have tweeted that they will be running a heavily reduced service tomorrow and that tickets for Sunday will be valid all day Monday 10 February instead.

One Twitter user asked if good weather would lead to services being reinstated but LNER responded: "we don't rule out further amendments but our advice remains do no travel."

Another unhappy customer wrote "you do understand there are thousands of rugby fans in Edinburgh who have to travel home."

LNER have advised that all of these trains are subject to alteration, cancellation or delay if the situation worsens.

For those travelling on Monday instead the company has asked customers to "please stay close to your booked time as trains will be busy.

"If you do not travel, you will be entitled to a full refund."

CrossCountry

CrossCountry will not run services between York and Scotland tomorrow.

Customers with tickets for Sunday 9 February may use their tickets on any CrossCountry service on Saturday 8 February, or any CrossCountry service after 09:30 on Monday 10 February.

Transpennine

A speed restriction will be imposed on most TransPennine Express routes on Sunday resulting in delays to services.

ScotRail

ScotRail services are currently not facing any delays or cancellations from Edinburgh however these are subject to change.

The train company has added that if you live near a railway to make sure to secure your garden furniture, trampolines and sheds to prevent them from being blown away by Storm Ciara.
