Storm Ciara topples brick wall while sweeping through Liverpool

A brick garden wall collapsed into an alleyway due to high winds as Storm Ciara swept across

Matthew Adamson woke up this morning to find that the garden wall had toppled over into the alleyway at the rear of the house in Portman Road in Wavertree.

Matthew said: "One of my house mates lives on the ground floor and he heard the whole thing. He called us all down and we went out.  The winds brought it down.

"At first we tried to move some of the rubble but the landlord told us to leave it. It was too heavy and there was nowhere to put it. He will get a builder out as soon as possible."

Matthew, 22, who works in a bar, said: "The wall collapsed into an alleyway at the rear of the house which is gated so there was not risk to anyone.

"We have a really good landlord and we know he will get it repaired as soon as possible. Probably cost at least £500 though to put right."

Storm Ciara hit Merseyside this morning, battering the coastline from Wirral to Crosby. Duke Street in Liverpool city centre was left showered in debris.
