Scotland is set to be battered by snow and wind for four days by .

The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning for Scotland until Tuesday with the north to bare the brunt of the cold weather.

Forecasters are predicting that west and central regions of Scotland will get the worst of the rainfall.

There is also a risk of snow falling particularly in the north and on higher ground.

Steven Keates from the Met Office says that Saturday will be bright but windy after overnight rain.

He added: "Late Sunday into early next week attention we could see a unpleasant wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow."

Power networks across the UK could struggle and travel plans face disruption when Storm Ciara brings  winds of up to 80mph.

Met Office meteorologist Grahame Madge described the weather front as "Ciara rather rudely barging her way through", taking conditions from "rather benign" to "very unsettled".

He said: "There's the potential for 80mph gusts in exposed locations across parts of the UK."

After a calm start to February, conditions will start to change as the weekend approaches, with winds beginning to increase on Friday.
