Storm Ciara set to extend into Wednesday as Met Office issues new warning for Ayrshire

The full effects of Storm Ciara are set to continue into a FIFTH day as Ayrshire is braced for more stormy weather.

The Met Office has extended its warning system into Wednesday, saying snow showers are likely to hit the west coast.

Up to 10cm could fall on higher ground, while drivers have been warned that flurries could also make their way to lower ground.

The warning reads: "Icy surfaces will be an additional hazard along with strong winds leading to some blizzard conditions at times."

The storm system arrived on Saturday, bringing winds of more than 60mph.

It has wreaked havoc across the country, with travel networks hit and ferry services among those most affected.
