Storm Ciara: Met Office issues yellow warning for earlier on Saturday as gale force winds head for Ayrshire

A weather warning has been issued for Ayrshire on Saturday, with the full effects of Storm Ciara set to hit land.

The Met Office has reassessed its original prediction of when the brunt of the storm will hit Ayrshire.

A yellow weather warning is now in place from 12 noon on Saturday, staying in place until midnight.

Forecasters have warned that delays to travel are likely by road, rail and ferry.

Short term power losses are also being predicted as the gale force winds barrel ashore.

Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected widely inland with exposed coasts and hills seeing gusts of around 70 mph for a time.

The winds will ease from the west during the evening.

Those travelling have been advised to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for their journey.
