Storm Ciara: Met Eireann Status Yellow wind and rain warnings in place for General Election 2020

Met Eireann has issued two Status Yellow wind and rain warnings for the entire country on General Election day as Ireland braces itself for Storm Ciara.

Voters heading to the polls on Saturday will have to battle wind hitting highs of110 km/h and heavy rain.

The weekend is set to be very wet with torrential rain on election day and Sunday across Ireland.

It is also going to be an extremely wet weekend with torrential rain on both election day and Sunday across the country with highest concentrations in the west and north-west.

The yellow wind warning will be in place from 9am Saturday morning, an hour after polls open.

It will finish at midnight on Monday morning.

The yellow rain warning comes into effect on Saturday at midday and goes until 3pm Sunday.

Heavy rain will go across Ireland on Saturday, with 40mm expected.

Sunday is set to bring heavy rain and wintry showers.

The heavy rain could draw localised flooding this weekend especially in the west of Ireland.

Storm Ciara was named by the UK Met Office and is going over Ireland with a risk of damaging gusts.

The opening of Galway 2020 European Year of Culture is due to take part in South Park, Claddagh on Saturday.

Ireland's Six Nations match is also on Saturday afternoon at 2.15pm.
