Storm Ciara: Flights cancelled, roads closures and transport disruption as chaos continues

Flights have been cancelled, roads have been closed and trains have been disrupted as the chaos of Storm Ciara rumbles on.

Manchester Airport confirmed 14 flights have been cancelled so far this morning.

The flights were travelling inbound and outbound from the airport.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.

A number of roads remain closed this morning and trains are disrupted as Storm Ciara continues to cause chaos.

Stannybrook, in Oldham, is sealed off in both directions due to flooding between Daisy Nook and Cutler Hill Road.

The closure is affecting traffic between Ashton-under-Lyne and Failsworth.

Cicley Mill Lane, in Cheshire, is also shut in both directions due to a fallen tree between Bucklow Hill and Rostherne Lane.

The A57 Snake Pass is closed to high sided vehicles between Ladybower Reservoir and Hurst Road due to the blustery winds.

Some trees came down earlier but have been pulled out the way.

There are still no trains running north of Preston due to flooding at Carlisle.

A bus service has been set up for affected passengers.

The disruption is affecting Avanti West Coast, Northern and TransPennine Express services.

A tweet from TransPennine Express said: "Due to the severe weather caused by #StormCiara, there is heavy flooding on the line at #Carlisle.

"We are advising customers NOT to travel today, on trains between #Edinburgh & #Glasgow and #Liverpool (via Carlisle) and Manchester."

There are delays on train routes between Stockport and Wilmslow after overhead electric wires were damaged during the storm.

Trains services are also disrupted between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria due to an emergency services incident at Newton-le-Willows.

Passengers are being advised to travel on Northern services via Warrington to get to Liverpool.
