Storm Ciara: Edinburgh Waverley closed to all non-ScotRail services due to overcrowding

Edinburgh Waverley has been closed to all non-ScotRail services due to overcrowding.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) have confirmed that the station is off-limits to new customers due to the amount of people currently inside. Tickets for journeys will remain valid tomorrow.

Cross Country trains also took to social media to say that "only ScotRail services are running", adding: "Do not travel to this station if you are trying to go south. You will not be allowed into the station."

Network Rail earlier told how cross-border services were "extremely limited" on Sunday due to Storm Ciara.

Pictures taken at the station show huge queues, with customers desperate to board the last remaining trains heading south of the border.

Storm Ciara arrived in Edinburgh last night, and the Met Office reckon the strongest winds are set to hit later this afternoon.
