Severe thunderstorm warnings for south-east Queensland have been cancelled after a series of small cells swept through the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a cancellation for the warnings, saying "thunderstorms are continuing over south-east Queensland but they are no longer expected to be severe".
Large hail and damaging winds had been expected from the storms in Brisbane, Maroochydore, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Noosa and Caboolture, as well as Gatton, Imbil and northeast of Kilcoy.
Small hailstones were reported in some areas including Crows Nest and Gatton, and cars were forced to pullover on the Warrego Highway because of heavy hail.
Rainfalls associated with the storms were very isolated with the bureau recording 10.8mm at Gatton, and 0.8mm at Amberley.
No rain was recorded for Brisbane City.
A statement from the bureau said the storm situation would continue to be monitored and further warnings issued if necessary.
In the event of severe storms, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advised that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees
- Secure loose outdoor items
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines
