Storm Brendan batters Ayrshire coastline as winds hammer west of Scotland

Storm Brendan battered the Ayrshire coast on Monday.

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning of high winds and torrential rain.

And their predictions proved to be bang on as gusts of up to 87mph were recorded on the west coast.

Big Brendan was brewing in the Atlantic before reaching Ireland on Monday morning and he burst on to the scene in Ayrshire at lunchtime.

His winds hit their peak during a busy rush hour, causing travel chaos.

And he was particularly fierce along the coastline, with Culzean Castle and Country Park forced to close for the day as a precaution.

The A77 was also forced to close at rush hour as a fallen tree caused chaos in Maybole.
