Storm Bella set to batter Scots on Boxing Day with heavy rain and wind as flood warnings issued

The next wave of horrendous weather has been dubbed Storm Bella, and the beast is set to arrive in Scotland on Boxing Day.

Strong winds and heavy rain is forecast after Christmas and the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the west of Scotland.

The alert warns that persistent rainfall is likely to result in localised flooding of roads and properties and hazardous driving conditions.

The yellow weather warning is in place for the West of Scotland (Met Office)

The warning area covers the the north-west of Glasgow, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Highlands, Argyll and Bute and West Dunbartonshire.

The elements will be felt with heavy downpours and strong winds, which could reach between 50mph and 60mph.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wardle, said: "Conditions will turn very unsettled after Christmas day, with a large area of low pressure sweeping across the UK from Boxing Day.

“Heavy rain will also move in from the north, with heavy downpours through the afternoon in Scotland and Northern Ireland moving south across England and Wales overnight.

"This will be a notable change from the calmer conditions over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so take extra care and stay up to date with the latest forecast.”

The alert will be in place from 9am until midnight.
