Storm Barra wreaks havoc as footage shows blizzard conditions on Scots road

Storm Barra has already begun wreaking havoc on Scots roads as drivers face blizzard conditions in parts of Scotland.

Footage shared by one passenger, Shannon Graham, shows the hair-raising weather on the A82 in Glencoe as snow lashed down.

Drivers were left with reduced visibility as the blizzard set in and struggled to manoeuvre up the hill as snow continued to fall.

The clip was taken at around 2pm on Tuesday, December 7, with Scots warned of a 'danger to life' ahead of the storm rolling in.

Shannon had been en route to Edinburgh from Fort William to visit the Christmas Markets with her partner when they were forced to turn back.

She took to social media to warn other drivers to 'avoid Glencoe'.

Shannon said: "Cars and lorries stopped struggling to get up the hill before the roadside waterfall."

The 24-year-old told the Daily Record: "My partner was driving, it was quite frightening as you couldn’t see the road surface or white lines at all, we turned around and left the glen with a top speed of 15mph."

The Met Office predicted wind speeds of up to 80mph and eight inches of snow on higher ground as the country braced for Storm Barra.

Forecasters warned anyone venturing near the coast there was a risk from high waves and flying debris.

Ferries were also cancelled and the transport network faces disruption with some bridges closed to high-sided vehicles.

ScotRail also announced a raft of delays and cancellations of services across its network ahead of the storm.

Some communities could be even cut off by the blizzards.

Power firms have said repair crews are on standby in case the network fails like it did during Storm Arwen late last month.
