Storm Barra weather: Video shows huge trees blocking road as wind and rain batter the North East

A video shows huge trees blocking a road near Northumberland as Storm Barra batters the North East.

Four trees and four cables were brought down in Foulden near Berwick-upon-Tweed completely blocking the road on Tuesday afternoon.

N. T. Walsh Tree And Forestry Services shared the video on Facebook with workers at the scene describing it as "absolute carnage".

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind stating that people living throughout the North East, the rest of England and Wales, and parts of eastern Scotland can expect "strong winds", "potential travel disruption" and possible power cuts.

Network Rail imposed a blanket 40mph speed restriction in the areas expected to be worst affected to protect passengers and train crew from the effects of the high winds.

Meanwhile, Northumberland County Council laid out its contingency plans as Storm Barra brought wind, heavy rain, and snow to the UK.

Northern Powergrid is continuing its major restoration efforts after Storm Arwen devastated part of its electricity network.

The electricity network operator is also tracking the weather closely and has taken action to ensure its teams are ready should Storm Barra affect its network and disrupt customers.
