Storm Barra: Passenger plane rocks in the air as it lands in 'severe winds' at airport

The moment a passenger jet swayed above a runway in the winds of Storm Barra was caught on camera.

The Aer Lingus plane faced a bumpy landing at Dublin Airport on Tuesday.

In the video, captured by Terry Healy, the commercial jet can be seen swaying from side-to-side as it approaches the tarmac.

It lurches up and then down as it gets closer, drifting off its axis as it slowly makes its way down.

While those onboard my have endured a nerve wracking end to their flight, the pilot manages to stick the landing.

Dublin was one of a number of counties placed under a Status Orange alert by Met Eireann on Tuesday as Storm Barra hit Ireland.

The weather front worked its way from West to East as Tuesday went on, bringing with it wind speeds of over 70mph.

Weather warnings remain in place across Ireland, after thousands of people were left without power as wind and rain battered parts of the country for hours on Tuesday.

Many schools, colleges and universities will remain closed today due to the dangerous weather.

The UK is also expected to feel the affects of Storm Barra today.

ScotRail has warned that some Wednesday services will be cancelled due to the storm.

The Environment Agency has issued 11 flood warnings for England at locations including Hartlepool and Sunderland in the North East, Bournemouth and Weymouth in the South, and part of the Cumbrian coast.

Some 66 flood alerts, for areas where flooding is possible, have also been issued across the country.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has sent 11 flood alerts and five warnings for areas in the north-east of Scotland and the south-west.

Natural Resources Wales has also issued 12 flood warnings and 11 alerts, mainly covering coastal areas.

Schools in Dumfries and Galloway were forced to close because of the weather.

Stranraer Academy was shut after the wind caused structural damage to the roof, the council said, and Drummore School closed after trees were blown down.

However, temperatures will be mild for the time of year today, with London predicted to see 7C, 8C in Cardiff, 4C for Edinburgh and 6C in Belfast.
