Storm Barra: Met Eireann weather forecast warns of snow, ice and damaging gusts

Storm Barra will continue to bring very windy conditions on Wednesday with further severe or damaging gusts, according to forecasters from Met Eireann.

Meanwhile Dublin is currently under a Yellow wind warning after a Status Orange wind warning expired this morning.

In a statement Met Eireann said: "Outbreaks of rain will mainly affecting the northern half of the country, possibly turning to sleet and snow for a time in places. Drier and brighter across the south and southwest with sunny spells and scattered showers.

"Feeling cold with highest temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees Celsius. Strong to gale force west to northwest winds will only gradually begin to moderate later today."

Any lingering rain will clear northeast tonight. Generally dry, calm and clear for a time with some frost and possible ice.

Later tonight, outbreaks of rain will move in from the west, along with low cloud, hill and coastal fog. Lowest 0 to 3 degrees Celsius,

Overall cloudy to begin on Thursday with scattered outbreaks of rain, and moderate southerly winds. A clearance to sunny spells and scattered blustery showers will follow into the afternoon with freshening westerly winds. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees Celsius.

Thursday night will be cold with showers across Atlantic counties, some of hail with sleet on high ground. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, in a rather brisk westerly wind.
