Storm Barra Ireland: Department of Education confirms all schools in Ireland set to reopen

All schools in Ireland are being advised to reopen on Thursday as normal, after Storm Barra battered the country.

It follows a two-day shutdown for schools in Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Donegal, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo, Wexford, Leitrim and Sligo, which remained closed due to Status Red and Orange alerts.

The Department of Education issued an update on Wednesday afternoon, saying: “The Department is advising that schools throughout the country will open tomorrow as usual.

“The Department would like to thank school communities, staff, students and parents, as well as the emergency services for their support during Storm Barra.”

The worst of Storm Barra is now over, with Met Eireann’s final weather warning expiring at 4pm on Wednesday.

It brought gusts of up to 130kmh and caused widespread damage including flooding, power outages and travel disruption.
