Storm Barra closes Ayrshire dumps as blustery weather front arrives in region

The Irvine and Largs recycling centres will be closed until further notice due to bad weather.

Ayrshire has been hit with strong winds today as Storm Barra batters the UK.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for winds for the Ayrshire area today.

North Ayrshire Council posted on their Twitter page: "The Household Waste Recycling Centres at Bartonholm Irvine & Largs are shut due to adverse weather conditions.

"We will provide a further update as soon as we can."

Winds in Irvine are set to reach 40mph over the next two hours and showers of sleet are expected on and off throughout the day.
