Storm Barra: Belfast Christmas Market closed due to 'extreme weather conditions'

Belfast Continental Christmas Market is set to remain closed today due to 'extreme weather conditions.'

It comes as a yellow warning for wind and rain is in place throughout Northern Ireland as Storm Barra hits, with gusts of 45-50mph expected widely, and 60-70mph in exposed coastal locations.

The weather warning is in place from 6am on Tuesday until 9am on Wednesday.

Belfast's popular Christmas market at City Hall will be closed today, however, organisers will be reviewing this decision later in the afternoon.

They have advised people to keep an eye on their social media accounts for regular updates.

A spokesperson for the Christmas Market said: "Due to the extreme weather conditions the Belfast Christmas Market will remain CLOSED today.

"This will be reviewed later this afternoon. Please keep an eye on social media for regular updates.

"Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

This year marks the first Christmas Market since 2019, which opened at noon on November 20 and will run up until 6pm on December 23.
