Storm Barra: 24 flood warnings and alerts in place in Wales

Natural Resources Wales has issued 24 flood warnings and alert across Wales, in the aftermath of Storm Barra.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds remains in place around the coast of Wales, after strong gales and heavy rainfall across the UK yesterday,

And coastal overtopping by waves is forecast by the Met Office today, with residents being advised to prepare for imminent flooding.

The locations where flooding is expected are listed below.

Areas with a RED flood warning

A red flood warning means that flooding is expected, and immediate action is required.

Natural Resources Wales advises anyone who lives in an area where flooding is expected, to observe the following instructions:

  • Move family, pets and valuables to a safe place.
  • Turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if it is safe to do so.
  • Put flood protection equipment in place.

The areas that currently have a red flood warning in place:

Gwynedd

Barmouth Harbour and Hendre Mynach.

Ceredigion

Tidal area at Cardigan.

Tidal area at Aberaeron.

Tidal area at Aberystwyth seafront.

Tidal area at Clarach Bay.

River Leri at Borth.

Borth.

Pembrokeshire

Tidal area at Newgale.

Tidal area at Dale.

Tidal area at Amroth.

Carmarthenshire

Tidal area at Pendine.

Tidal area at Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park, Kidwelly.

Areas with an ORANGE flood alert

An orange flood alert means that flooding is possible from rivers or the sea.

Anyone who lives in an orange flood alert area should:

Conwy

Conwy Catchment.

Powys

Upper Severn in Powys.

Vyrnwy Catchment.

Upper Teme upstream and including Knighton.

Ceredigion

Lleyn Peninsula and Cardigan Bay coastline.

Swansea

Tidal area at Crofty.

Coastlines

North Wales coast.

West Anglesey coast.

Swansea Bay and the Gower coast.

Carmarthenshire coast.

Pembrokeshire coast.

Ceredigion coast between Clarach and Cardigan.
