Storm Arwen: Ferry sailings cancelled as red weather warning issued for Scotland

Ferry sailings have been axed today as Storm Arwen arrives in Scotland.

A red weather alert has been issued for Scotland's east coast as the ruthless weather front looks set to cause chaos over the next 48 hours.

Ayrshire is currently in the yellow weather warning zone, according to the Met Office.

And CalMac has announced today that all ferry sailings between Arran and Ardrossan have been cancelled for the rest of the day due to adverse weather.

Boat bosses say that the the forecasted weather front could also lead to the disruption or cancellation of sailings tomorrow too.

A statement from CalMac reads: "Due to strong winds, this service is liable to disruption or cancellations at short notice.

"A review will take place at approx. 5.30pm on Friday, November 26."

The Largs to Cumbrae ferry is to operate final sailing this afternoon before being halted for the remainder of the day too.
