This warning is in place from 3pm in Edinburgh until 2am tomorrow morning.

Damage to houses is more than likely, with roofs blown off and power lines being affected also being a possibility.

Edinburgh Christmas orgniasers took to Facebook to announce the early closure, saying: "Due to the inclement weather currently being experienced in the area, Edinburgh's Christmas will close today at 3pm."

They also left a link to their blog that will be regularly updated when more information becomes available.

This disappointing announcement comes after the Minister of Transport issued a warning for Edinburgh residents and beyond to take police advice and stay at home if possible, with travel disruptions also likely.

Graeme Day said: "There is significant potential for disruption on the roads, especially on bridges, and people should check the latest information before making any decision to travel.

"They should also follow Police Scotland warnings to avoid travel in those areas impacted by the red warning.

"The conditions are also likely to lead to disruption on other modes of transport, so we are urging people to take the weather into account if they are planning to travel on trains, ferries and flights."

Scotrail have also announced cancellations and restrictions for their services, saying there will be a 50mph limit on trains between Edinburgh and the border from 4pm today, until 9am tomorrow morning.
