Storm Arwen: A9 and A90 among numerous busy roads blocked as bad weather causes travel chaos

The A9 and A90 are among numerous busy roads to have been blocked off as Storm Arwen wreaks havoc with high winds and snow across Scotland.

All lanes of the A9 at Drumochter are off-limits because of three trees falling onto the carriageway around 8.11pm.

The northbound carriageway of the same road is also completely blocked between Dalwhinnie and House of Bruar due to fallen trees.

The A90 northbound is completely closed after Brechin due to what Traffic Scotland referred to as 'multiple incidents.'

They also advised the public on Twitter: "Do avoid if you are out and about!"

Meanwhile, the A96 was shut between Newton and Forres because of fallen trees along the route at around 6.46pm.

The A92 eastbound was partially blocked earlier near Redhouse Roundabout in Kirkcaldy as a result of a fallen tree. The eastbound carriageway near the Lochgelly Interchange is also partially blocked.

Similarly, a fallen tree was responsible for affecting the A77 northbound at the Grassyards Interchange in Kilmarnock

A road sign has also become detached from poles and is obstructing the carriageway on the A1 northbound at Bankton and Tranent.

Live power lines have been exposed on the A96 in Keith and the A95 Newmill Junction as a result of the bad weather conditions.

Scotland has been badly affected by Storm Arwen as winds with speeds of up to 84mph batter some areas.

We previously told how the A1 near Dunbar was closed in both directions for safety while the Clackmannanshire Bridge has also been closed to high sided vehicles.

The Met Office issued a red weather warning in the east with Police Scotland urging people not to travel.

A number of rail services are also off tonight due to the bad weather.
