Storm Area 51: More than a million people sign up to break into top-secret facility

More than a million people have signed up to storm Area 51 and reveal what is hiding in the top secret base – with another million set to follow them.

A hugely popular Facebook event that urges people to break into the military facility because “they can’t stop all of us” has now been joined by more than a million people and it is quickly growing, with another million indicating they are “interested”.

The event – which appears to have been set up as a joke, but has received swift condemnation and threats from the US military – urges people to join together and attempt to get into the military base.

“We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry,” a description of the event reads. ”If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens.”

It it scheduled for 20 September but has grown quickly since it was recently established, with hundreds of thousands of people joining each day.

The US military has attempted to discourage any potential action. Air Force spokesperson Laura McAndrews warned that soldiers stand “ready” to deal with anyone attempting to break in, and noted that it was a “open training range” filled with “American armed forces”.

“[Area 51] is an open training range for the US Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” she said.

Ms McAndrews added: “The US Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets”.

Facebook did not immediately respond to questions about the event sent by The Independent.
