Storm Alex prompts rail disruption between Edinburgh and Fife after landslip reported

Scotland's rail network has faced disruption after heavy rain overnight caused flooding in parts of the country.

Network Rail have been carrying out inspections across Scotland's railways to check for flooded tracks after bad weather hit the east of Scotland overnight.

The railway operator said it had received reports of a landslip between Inverkeithing & Aberdour, as well as a second landslip near Kirkcaldy in Fife.

ScotRail has listed a number of major disruptions to its services.

The line between Kirkcaldy and Inverkeithing has therefore been closed, affecting services from Edinburgh travelling north.

Network Rail said on Twitter : "We’re carrying out safety checks on routes affected by the heavy rain yesterday brought by Storm Alex. It's being carried out by our teams on the ground, and route proving locomotives. This means some routes will remain closed while it’s done.

"We've had reports of a landslip between Inverkeithing & Aberdour, and also a landslip north of Kirkcaldy. The line between Inverkeithing & Kirkcaldy is currently closed."

Travellers are being urged to check their journey for possible disruption of delays before they travel.

Trains are currently suspended between Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Ladybank, affecting services running from Edinburgh to Fife.

Disruption is expected until at least 12:00pm according to ScotRail.

Trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Shotts are also facing major disruption until 2pm due to severe weather.
