Storm Alex named as Met Eireann give Ireland weather forecast for coming days

Storm Alex has been named by the French Met Office although it is not expected to bring any major weather conditions to Ireland.

The storm is expected to have a far worse affect on mainland Europe, with Ireland just getting some wet and windy conditions.

Severe winds will hit France and southern parts of England on Thursday night but here it will mostly pass by.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said: "The French Met Service have named Storm Alex for tomorrow night.

"It will bring some severe and damaging winds to France but also impact Southern England."

Met Eireann's weather forecast for Ireland for the rest of the week is for miserable conditions but not storm warning level.

A forecaster said: "Thursday will bring a mix of sunshine and showers. A sunny and chilly start in the east will soon give way to showers spreading from the west in the morning, and becoming widespread for a time.

"Many of the showers will be heavy with hail, and isolated thunderstorms are possible. Light southerly breezes will become westerly or variable in the afternoon.

"Rather cool for the time of year, with highest temperatures of just 10 to 12 degrees.

"On Thursday night, showers will become mainly confined to the east and north with long clear spells developing elsewhere. Lows of 2 to 6 degrees with some grass frost possible. Winds will be light to moderate, northerly in direction."

Friday and most of Saturday will be much the same before wetter and winder weather arrives Saturday night and into Sunday.
