Melbourne have emerged from Tuesday night's NRL judiciary hearings with a win and a loss.
The defending premiers will be without giant forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona against the Warriors on Sunday after he failed to overturn a contrary conduct charge.
However centre Reimis Smith managed to get a careless high-tackle ban downgraded, allowing him to play this weekend.
Smith was facing a two-match ban if he failed to persuade the judiciary to downgrade his charge after being sin-binned for a shot on Jaimin Joliffe.
He left the judiciary with just a $1600 fine after it was reduced to a grade one charge.
Asofa-Solomona would normally have been able to escape with a fine for his charge after putting his knee on Joseph Vuna's head as he got up to play the ball against Gold Coast.
But two previous offences, including one for a high shot in the same game, meant he faced a one-game ban unless he was found not guilty.
